  1. Read verse 14a. Why is it difficult to get along with some people? (14a) To what extent are Christians to try to resolve conflicts? (Also read Ro. 12:18; Mt. 5:23-24) Why is it important to live in peace with others? (Mt. 5:9)

  2. Read verses 14b-15. Why is holiness important? (14b; 1 Pe. 1:15-16) In what way should believers pursue holiness? (Jn. 6:53-54; 1 Jn. 1:9) Why would some believers fall short of the grace of God? (15) How would you counsel a friend who was extremely bitter and cause trouble?

  3. Read verses 16-17. What kind of things do Christians need to watch out for? (16) Why should we not be sexually immoral or godless?

  4. Read verses 18-21. In what ways was the old covenant intimidating or frightening? How is Mount Sinai described – the place where the old covenant was revealed?

  5. Read verses 22-24. How did the author describe Mount Zion? How is it different from Mount Sinai?

  6. Read verses 25-27. What warning does the author give to his readers? (25) What promises did God give to His believers? What does the words “once more” indicate? Of what kind of kingdom are Christians a part?

  7. Read verses 28-29. How would we who received an unshakable kingdom live? What does it mean to worship God with reverence and awe? What does it mean that God is a consuming fire?
