John 1:1-5, 14 (June 10) The Glory of Jesus, God Incarnate Key verse: John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” |

The term glory is generally used when something is incomparable, beautiful, and great. For example, in Germany, some people think it is glorious to drive on the German autobahn highways without a speed limit. Personally, I think it is glorious to see many redeemed children of God here from all over the world at this conference after a long CoViD break ... |
|
But what does glory mean in the context of the gospel? Glory here means the presence of the holy God on earth. This glory consists in the fact that this eternal God, who holds life in his hands, has come down to dwell among us human beings. |
|
We find the glory of God fully in one person: Jesus Christ, the one and only Son from the Father. In Jesus, the glory of God became man. Whoever believes in him will see the glory of God. We have come together here to encounter the glory of God: Jesus Christ. Of him, Apostle John testifies: “We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Would you like to see Jesus' glory? Let us see the glory of Jesus, God incarnate! |
Look at verses 1-3: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” |

The author John speaks about the `Word´, which is in Greek `Logos´. In the philosophy of that time, Logos was the all-pervading divine world reason. But it was impersonal. To this Logos, John now assigns a person: Jesus Christ. Thereby he announced to the world of that time that in Jesus one would find the true meaning of their lives. |
| Look at verse 1 again: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” |

Jesus was already there in the beginning. He came from eternity, dwelt among us for a time, and is now back in His eternity. Jesus is God. Apostle John emphasizes it again and again: “the Word was God.” (1:1) “No-one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in the closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” (1:18) Apostle Thomas followed Jesus. But he didn't really believe that Jesus is God. But when he touched the nail wounds of the risen Christ, he recognized the glory of Jesus and said: “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Thomas recognized that Jesus is God, his God. |

Many people recognize Jesus as merely a great teacher or a great personality. But the Bible says something completely different about Jesus. Colossians 1:16 says: “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” |

To know God properly, we must know Jesus properly. Why is this so? Because Jesus and God are one. Apostle John proclaims the truth that Jesus is God. Jesus is the eternal God. His home is eternity. His power is the power to create. He says in verse 3: “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” |

Jesus is eternal Creator-God. All things were made through Jesus. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. We can see how beautiful Jesus is, when we notice the splendor and majesty of creation: the green grass, the wonderful flowers, the different kinds of animals. In Chicago this year for the first time I saw a Cardinal. Wow, such a beautiful red bird I´ve never seen in Germany. We realize this fact that Jesus is the Creator when we study the life of Jesus in the Gospels. Who could change water into wine? Who could walk on water? Who could restore sight to a man born blind by the saliva of his mouth? Who could raise the dead to life? We don’t need any more proof: Jesus is the eternal Creator-God. |

Our world is not a product of chance. You and I are a special edition made by God through Jesus. We are children of God, precious sons and daughters of God. We are created by Him to live for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. That is the meaning of our life. One day a young woman came to our worship service, after finding us through Instagram. She looked pale and exhausted. She came every week to hear God's word. She recognized that God speaks to her. Now she looks much better. Her eyes are shining. Her face became brighter. She found that God made her very good. She found her true meaning of life by knowing Jesus, the Creator-God. John 1 gives us the clear direction that Jesus is our God. Everyone of us has been created through him and for him. Do you believe that? |

II. In Jesus Is Life (4-5) Look at verses 4-5: “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” In Jesus is life. But what is life actually? There is physical life. We preserve this kind of life by keeping fit and eating healthy foods. There is also mental life. We had a lot of mental problems during the CoViD period: loneliness, fear of contagion, and disagreement about countermeasures. Finally, there is spiritual life. The Greek word for life here is `zoe´. The name Zoe is still given to many daughters today, like Zoe Keller or Zoe McEathron in our ministry. This is an expression of hope that the children receive eternal life from Jesus. Zoe is God’s life in us. |

When we were separated from God in Paradise through the Fall, we lost the life of God. We no longer had eternal life. So, we had to eat our bread in this cursed world by the sweat of our brow, only to die again after an exhausting life. For dust we are, and to dust we must return. What a tragedy! |

But now we have hope, because “In him was life.” Although we lost the zoe-life, it still exists. Jesus has it. Jesus left heaven to visit us here in the shadow of death, and He brought eternal life with Him. God gave us Jesus so that we might have eternal life again through Him. Jesus has the life we long for so much. |

We can see that Jesus is the owner of life in the story of Lazarus. Jesus was not sad to hear that his friend Lazarus died. Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live.” Then Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Through this, the people could see the glory of God. |

Jesus is the owner of life. In Him is the eternal indestructible life of God. If we believe in Him, we will be able to see the glory of God with our own eyes. Do you want to possess this life? Then come to Jesus! |
| Look at verses 4-5 again: “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” |

Here, the world we live in is described as darkness. Indeed, without the presence of God, the world is dark. For example, a man who believes that death is the end, is a man full of darkness. He lives without hope. He wants to enjoy life as much as possible, because for him life is short. His darkness might be expressed with drinking too much alcohol, or taking drugs, or living in sexual immorality. Many young people struggle in darkness about who they are or what they are here for in this world. Is there any hope in this darkness? Yes, at the end of the tunnel we see a light. The light shines in the darkness. It is getting brighter and brighter. Although the dark forces are fighting it with all their might, they are not able to stop this light. The light is too strong. No pleasure addiction, no crisis of identity can overcome it. The glory of Jesus is a glory full of life and light. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Amen! Let us take a closer look at this light. |

III. The Word Became Flesh (14) The praise of God’s glory now comes to its climax in verse 14: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Up to this point, Apostle John recognized that Jesus was the eternal Creator-God and in Him was life. But now he saw with his own eyes that God became flesh. |

Actually, we want to reach higher and higher. We want to own more, claim our rights more, and enjoy more recognition. We like to read biographies like that of Jeff Bezos, who was born in simple circumstances and, with the founding of Amazon, virtually rose from dishwasher to billionaire. |
|
Apostle John could not find this tendency in God. When he thought deeply about God, he found a very different character in Him. God did not care about His fame, power, and majesty. That was not His concern. No, it was just the other way around. The One who created heaven and earth, and in whom the fullness of life is hidden, left His kingdom and became a common man in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. This fact is truly amazing. God is so holy. In his presence our lips are burnt as by a burning coal. This God descended the ladder of heaven and humbled Himself to the level of fallen man. |
| Apostle Paul proclaimed Jesus´ humble love saying, “Christ Jesus: who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!” (Php 2:5-8) |

Apostle John declared “the word became flesh.” We call this, `God incarnate´. What does it mean? To be with us, God took on human form and dwelt among us. Flesh here refers to human beings who live under the curse of sin. God sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful man. Is there any greater humiliation? Can you imagine a greater love for us? Once I went swimming in the Atlantic ocean with my wife. I saw that she was fighting against the waves. Then I didn't see her anymore. Immediately I also swam into the deadly waves. I lost control and was swallowed by the water. By God's grace, there was a whirlpool that pulled me into calm waters. That's where I found my wife again. Why did I risk my life? It was because I love my wife. I had love but no power to save her. You know what I want to say? Jesus left his heavenly palace to dwell among us as a man, even though we are all proud, rebellious sinners. Why should he do that? There is only one answer: Jesus is full of love toward us. He loves each of us more than we can imagine. Because of this love, Jesus gave up his precious divine life and became one of us. I had only love, but no power to save my wife. But Jesus has love and mighty power to save us. Praise our Lord Jesus Christ! |

God incarnate lived in what is now Israel. I was overcome with emotion when I visited the Church of the Beatitudes. From there, the Son of God also looked down on the Sea of Galilee and delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus frequently visited the city of Jerusalem. There we can touch the big stones of the temple which Jesus touched. |

There was a fascinating glory emanating from Jesus. Considering that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, every step He took on earth and every word He spoke on earth is as precious as an emerald and as pure as the rays of the sun. |

The glory of Jesus is quite different from the glory of the world. We take pictures to post and make others interested in us. From Jesus we find no pictures; just a symbol of his suffering: the cross. If we could do miracles, we would establish a franchise company for earning a lot of money. From Jesus we know that he lived a poor life, even though he was the owner of the world. Jesus´ glory was not to become famous or rich. Jesus´ glory was to become human to serve and save sinners. |

Apostle John was moved by this humble God. In the past he was so ambitious that he wanted to sit beside Jesus´ glorious throne. But Jesus wrapped a towel around his waist and washed his feet. John always wanted to lie at Jesus’ breast. He even saw Jesus dying on the cross. There Jesus prayed for forgiveness for his enemies. The Apostles saw Jesus’ glory very clearly. |

When we look up to Jesus, we see oceans of grace and truth, like the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In Jesus we find the truth that we must be condemned because of our sins. But in Jesus we also find the grace that he saved us by taking our sins on the cross. |

In 2017 I was overcome by a great weariness and indifference to the redemptive work of God. I didn't agree with some tendencies of my church. The word of God didn´t touch my heart deeply anymore. I fell back into a petty self-centered life with my job, family, friends, and hobbies. I had another glory growing in my heart, a worldly glory. During this time, Jesus showed me the drama of the lost world through Revelation Bible study and that He soon will come back. While hiking in the beautiful Alps, Jesus renewed my heart for God’s work. Out of nowhere I had to cry tears: there are so many young people who need vision in their lives. In this time of revival, Jesus called me to responsibly take care of His church in Cologne UBF. He helped me give up some of my hobbies and other activities. It’s a great pleasure to serve God's glory. I could see so many hidden disciples of Jesus who pray wholeheartedly, prepare the environment, and take care of God's flock. I could see a young man who found the love of Jesus again, got married with a woman of faith, and served God with his gifts. Jesus became a man and visited me in the crucial stages of my life. I belong to Him. His glory defines my life. Hallelujah! Jesus is the eternal Creator-God. In Jesus is life. Through Jesus, the glory of God became flesh and dwelt among us. Let us see Jesus’ glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Amen! |

성육신하신 하나님 예수의 영광
핵심 구절: 요한복음 1:14
“말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 우리가 그의 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라.”
영광이라는 용어는 일반적으로 어떤 것이 비교할 수 없고, 아름답고, 위대할 때 사용됩니다.
예를 들어, 독일에 어떤 사람들은 속도 제한 없이 독일 아우토반 고속도로를 운전하는 것이 영광스럽다고 생각합니다.
개인적으로 저는 길었던 CoViD 판데믹 이후 이곳 컨퍼런스에서 전 세계에서 온 구속받은 하나님의 많은 자녀들을 보게 되어 영광이라고 생각합니다…
그러나 복음의 맥락에서 영광이란 무엇을 의미합니까?
여기서 영광이란 이 땅 위에 거룩하신 하나님의 임재를 의미합니다.
이 영광은 생명을 손에 쥐고 계시는 이 영원하신 하나님이 우리 인간들 가운데 거하기 위해 내려오셨다는 사실에 있습니다.
우리는 하나님의 영광을 아버지의 독생자이신 예수 그리스도 한 분 안에서 온전히 발견합니다.
예수님 안에서, 하나님의 영광이 사람이 되셨습니다.
그를 믿는 자는 누구든지 하나님의 영광을 보게될것 입니다.
우리는 하나님의 영광이신 예수 그리스도를 만나기 위해 이 자리에 모였습니다.
그에 대하여 사도 요한은 “우리가 그의 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라”고 증언합니다.
예수님의 영광을 보고싶으십니까?
성육신하신 예수님의 영광을 보게 하소서!
예수님은 하나님이십니다.(1-3)
1-3절을 보십시오: “태초에 말씀이 계시니라 이 말씀이 하나님과 함께 계셨으니 이 말씀은 곧 하나님이시니라 그가 태초에 하나님과 함께 계셨고 만물이 그로 말미암아 지은바 되었으니 지은 것이 하나도 그가 없이는 된 것이 없느니라.”
저자 요한은 헬라어로 '로고스'인 '말씀'에 대해 이야기합니다.
그 당시의 철학에서 로고스는 만물에 편만한 신성한 세계 근거였습니다.
그러나 그것은 비인격적이었습니다.
이 로고스에, 요한은 이제 예수 그리스도라는 한 인격체를 지정합니다.
그리하여 그는 예수님 안에서 그들의 삶이 참된 의미를 발견하게 될 것이라고 당시의 세상에 알렸습니다.
다시 1절을 보십시오: “태초에 말씀이 계시니라 이 말씀이 하나님과 함께 계셨으니 이 말씀은 곧 하나님이시니라.”
예수님은 태초에 이미 계셨습니다.
그분은 영원으로부터 오셨고, 얼마간 우리 가운데 거하셨으며, 이제 그의 영원으로돌아가셨습니다.
예수님은 하나님이십니다. 사도 요한은 이를 거듭 강조합니다.
“이 말씀은 곧 하나님이시니라.” (1:1) “본래 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되
아버지 품 속에 있는 독생하신 하나님이 나타내셨느니라” (1:18)
사도 도마는 예수님을 따랐습니다.
그러나 그는 예수님이 곧 하나님이심을 진정으로 믿지 않았습니다.
그러나 그가 부활하신 그리스도의 못자국을 만졌을 때, 그는 예수님의 영광을 알아보고말했습니다. “나의 주님이시요 나의 하나님이시니이다”(요 20:28)
도마는 예수님이 하나님이시며, 그의 하나님이심을 인정했습니다.
많은 사람들은 예수님을 그저 위대한 선생이나 위대한 인물로 인식합니다.
그러나 성경은 예수님에 대해 완전히 다르게 말하고 있습니다.
골로새서 1:16은 이렇게 말합니다. “만물이 그에게서 창조되되 하늘과 땅에서 보이는 것들과 보이지 않는 것들과 혹은 왕권들이나 주권들이나 통치자들이나 권세들이나 만물이 다 그로 말미암고 그를 위하여 창조되었고”
하나님을 제대로 알기 위해서는, 반드시 예수님을 제대로 알아야 합니다.
왜 그렇습니까?
예수님과 하나님은 하나이시기 때문입니다.
사도 요한은 예수님이 하나님이시다라는 진리를 선포합니다.
예수님은 영원하신 하나님이십니다.
그의 집은 영원합니다.
그의 능력은 창조주의 능력입니다.
그는 3절에서 이렇게 말합니다. “만물이 그로 말미암아 지은 바 되었으니 지은것이 하나도 그가 없이는 된것이없느니라”
예수님은 영원한 창조주 하나님이십니다.
모든 것이 예수님을 통해 만들어졌습니다.
그가 없이는, 만들어진 것이 아무것도 없습니다.
우리는 푸른 풀, 아름다운 꽃, 다양한 종류의 동물과 같은 창조의 화려함과 장엄함을 볼 때 예수님이 얼마나 아름다운지 알 수 있습니다.
올해 시카고에서 저는 처음으로 카디널(홍관조)을 보았습니다.
와우, 독일에서 본 적이 없는 참으로 아름다운 빨간새였습니다.
우리는 복음서에 나오는 예수님의 생애를 공부할 때 예수님이 곧 창조주라는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다.
누가 물을 포도주로 바꿀 수 있겠습니까?
누가 물 위를 걸을 수 있었습니까?
날때부터 소경 된 사람의 눈을 누가 그 입의 침으로 뜨게 할 수있습니까?
누가 죽은 자를 살릴 수있습니까?
더 이상의 증거가 필요하지 않습니다. 예수님은 영원한 창조주 하나님이십니다.
우리 세상은 우연의 산물이 아닙니다.
여러분과 저는 하나님이 예수님을 통해 만드신 특별판입니다.
우리는 하나님의 자녀요, 하나님의 귀한 아들과 딸입니다.
우리는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 영광을 위해 살도록 그분에 의해 창조되었습니다.
그것이 우리 삶의 의미입니다.
어느 날 한 젊은 여성이 인스타그램을 통해 우리를 찾아 예배에 왔습니다.
그녀는 창백하고 지쳐 보였습니다.
그녀는 하나님의 말씀을 듣기 위해 매주 나왔습니다.
그녀는 하나님께서 그녀에게 말씀하신다는 것을 깨달았습니다.
이제 그녀는 훨씬 나아보입니다.
그녀의 눈은 빛이 납니다.
그녀의 얼굴이 밝아졌습니다.
그녀는 하나님께서 그녀를 참으로 좋게 만드셨다는 것을 알았습니다.
그녀는 창조주 하나님이신 예수님을 앎으로써 그 인생의 진정한 의미를 찾았습니다.
요한복음 1장은 예수님이 우리의 하나님이라는 분명한 방향을 제시합니다.
우리 모두는 그를 통해, 그리고 그를 위해 창조되었습니다.
여러분은 이를믿으십니까?
예수님 안에 생명이 있습니다(4-5)
4-5절을 보십시오: “그 안에 생명이 있었으니 이 생명은 사람들의 빛이라 빛이 어두움에 비치되 어두움이 깨닫지 못하더라.”
예수님 안에 생명이 있습니다.
실제로 생명은 무엇입니까?
육신의 생명이 있습니다.
우리는 건강을 유지하고 건강한 음식을 섭취함으로써 이러한 종류의 생명을유지합니다.
정신적인 생명도 있습니다.
CoViD 기간 동안 외로움, 전염에 대한 두려움, 대책에 대한 의견 불일치 등 많은 정신적 문제가있었습니다.
마지막으로 영적인 생명이 있습니다.
여기서 생명을 뜻하는 헬라어는 '조이'입니다.
Zoe라는 이름은 우리 사역의 Zoe Keller 또는 Zoe McEathron과 같은 오늘날에도 여전히 많은 딸들에게 주어집니다.
이것은 자녀들이 예수님으로부터 영생을 얻기를 바라는 소망의 표현입니다.
조이는 우리 안에 있는 하나님의 생명입니다.
타락으로 말미암아 낙원에서 하나님과 분리되었을 때 우리는 하나님의 생명을 잃어버렸습니다.
우리에게는 더 이상 영생이 없었습니다.
그래서 우리는 이 저주받은 세상에서 이마에 땀을 흘려야만 먹고 사는 존재가 되어 결국은 곤한 인생을 마감하는 존재가 되었습니다.
우리는 흙이니 흙으로 돌아가야 합니다.
이 얼마나 비극적입니까.
그러나 이제 우리에게는 희망이 있습니다. 왜냐하면 “그 안에 생명이 있었”기 때문입니다.
비록 우리가 조이의 생명을 잃어버렸지만, 그것은 여전히 존재합니다.
예수님이 가지고 계십니다.
예수님은 죽음의 그늘에 있는 우리를 찾아오시기 위해 천국을 떠나셨고, 그와 함께 영생을 가져오셨습니다.
하나님은 우리가 예수님을 통해 다시 영생을 얻을 수 있도록 예수님을 우리에게 주셨습니다.
예수님은 우리가 그토록 갈망하는 생명을 갖고 계십니다.
우리는 나사로의 이야기에서 예수님이 생명의 주인이심을 볼 수 있습니다.
예수님은 친구 나사로가 죽었다는 소식을 듣고 슬퍼하지 않으셨습니다.
예수님은 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다.
“나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 살리라”
그리고 예수님은 나사로를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리셨습니다.
이를 통해 사람들은 하나님의 영광을 볼 수 있었습니다.
예수님은 생명의 주인이십니다.
그분 안에 하나님의 영원한 불멸의 생명이 있습니다.
우리가 그를 믿으면 우리 눈으로 하나님의 영광을 볼 수 있게 됩니다.
이 생명을 소유하고 싶습니까?
그렇다면 예수님께 나아오십시오!
4-5절을 다시 보십시오: “그 안에 생명이 있었으니 이 생명은 사람들의 빛이라 빛이 어두움에 비치되 어두움이 깨닫지 못하더라.”
여기서 우리가 사는 세상은 어둠으로 묘사됩니다.
참으로 하나님의 임재가 없으면 세상은 어둡습니다.
예를 들어, 죽음이 끝이라고 믿는 사람은 어둠으로 가득 찬 사람입니다.
그는 희망 없이 삽니다.
그는 가능한 한 인생을 즐기기를 원합니다. 그에게 인생은 짧기 때문입니다.
그의 어두움은 술을 많이 마시거나 마약을 복용하거나 음란한 생활을 하는 것으로 표현될 수 있습니다.
많은 젊은이들이 자신이 누구인지 또는 이 세상에서 무엇을 위해 존재하는지에 대해 어둠 속에서 고군분투합니다.
이 어둠 속에 어떤 희망이 있습니까?
예, 터널 끝에서 우리는 빛을 봅니다.
빛은 어둠 속에서 빛납니다.
점점 그 빛은 점점 더 밝아지고 있습니다.
어둠의 세력이 온 힘을 다해 싸우고 있지만 이 빛을 막을 수는 없습니다.
빛이 너무 강합니다.
어떤 쾌락 중독도, 어떤 정체성의 위기도 그 빛을 이길 수 없습니다.
예수님의 영광은 생명과 빛으로 충만한 영광입니다.
빛이 어두움에 비치되 어두움이 이기지 못하더라 아멘!
이 빛을 자세히 살펴 보겠습니다.
말씀이 육신이 되어 (14)
하나님의 영광에 대한 찬양은 이제 14절에서 절정에 이릅니다.
“말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매. 우리가 그의 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라.”
여기까지 사도 요한은 예수님이 영원한 창조주 하나님이시며 그 안에 생명이 있음을 알았습니다.
그러나 이제 그는 하나님이 육신이 되신 것을 그의 눈으로 보게되었습니다.
사실 우리는 더 더 높은 곳에 도달하기를 원합니다.
우리는 더 많이 소유하고, 더 많이 권리를 주장하고, 더 많은 인정을 받고 싶어합니다.
우리는 소박한 환경에서 태어났지만 Amazon을 설립하면서 사실상 식당 접시닦이에서 억만장자로 수직상승한 Jeff Bezos의 이야기와 같은 전기를 읽는 것을 좋아합니다.
사도 요한은 이러한 경향을 하나님에게서 찾을 수 없었습니다.
그가 하나님에 대해 깊이 생각했을 때, 그는 하나님 안에서 매우 다른 성품을 발견했습니다.
하나님은 그의 명성과 권세와 위엄에 관심이 없으셨습니다.
그것은 그분의 관심사가 아니었습니다.
아니, 그 반대였습니다. .
천지를 창조하시고 그 안에 생명의 충만이 감추어져 있는 이가 그 나라를 떠나 나사렛 예수의 모습을 한 보통 사람이 되셨습니다.
이 사실은 참으로 놀랍습니다.
하나님은 너무나 거룩하십니다.
그의 임재 앞에서 우리의 입술은 숯불에 타듯이 타오릅니다.
이 하나님이 하늘 사닥다리를 타고 내려오셔서 자신을 타락한 인간의 수준으로 낮추셨습니다.
사도 바울은 예수님의 사랑의 낮아지심을 이와 같이 선포했습니다. “곧 그리스도 예수의 마음이니 그는 근본 하나님의 본체시나 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것으로 여기지 아니하시고
오히려 자기를 비워 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨고 또는 본체
사람의 모양으로 나타나사 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라” (빌 2:5-8)
사도 요한은 “말씀이 육신이 되어”라고 선언했습니다.
우리는 이것을 ‘하나님의 성육신'이라고 부릅니다.
무슨뜻입니까?
우리와 함께 하시기 위해, 하나님은 인간의 모습을 취하시고 우리 가운데 거하셨습니다.
여기서 육체란 죄의 저주 아래 사는 인간을 가리킵니다.
하나님은 자신의 아들을 이와 같은 죄인의 모양으로 보내셨습니다.
이보다 더한 굴욕이 있습니까?
우리를 향한 이보다 더 큰 사랑을 상상할 수 있습니까?
한번은 아내와 함께 대서양에서 수영을 하러 갔습니다.
나는 그녀가 파도와 싸우고 있는 것을 보았습니다.
그런 다음 더 이상 아내가 보이지 않았습니다.
즉시 저도 위험한 파도 속으로 헤엄 쳤습니다.
저는 통제력을 잃고 물에 삼켜졌습니다.
하나님의 은혜로, 저를 잔잔한 물결로 끌어당기는 소용돌이가 있었습니다.
그곳에서 아내를 다시 찾았습니다.
왜 내 목숨을 걸었습니까?
아내를 사랑했기 때문입니다.
저는 사랑이 있었지만 그녀를 구할 힘은 없었습니다.
제가 무슨 말을 하고자 하는지 아시겠습니까?
비록 우리 모두가 교만하고 반항적인 죄인일지라도 예수님은 하늘 궁전을 떠나 인간으로 우리 가운데 거하셨습니다.
왜 그렇게 해야 하셨습니까?
답은 하나뿐입니다. 예수님은 우리를 향한 사랑으로 충만하십니다.
그분은 우리가 상상할 수 있는 것 이상으로 우리 각자를 사랑하십니다.
이 사랑 때문에 예수님은 당신의 귀한 신성한 생명을 포기하시고 우리 중 한 사람이 되셨습니다.
저는 사랑은 있었으나 아내를 구할 힘은 없었습니다.
그러나 예수님은 우리를 구원할 사랑과 전능한 능력이 있으십니다.
우리 주 예수 그리스도를 찬양합니다!
성육신하신 하나님은 이스라엘에 사셨습니다.
제가 팔복 교회를 방문했을 때 감격에 휩싸였습니다.
그곳에서, 하나님의 아들도 갈릴리 바다를 내려다보시며 산상설교를 하셨습니다.
예수님은 예루살렘성을 자주 방문하셨습니다.
그곳에서 우리는 예수님께서 만지셨던 성전의 큰 돌들을 만질 수 있습니다.
예수님에게서 나오는 황홀한 영광이 있었습니다.
예수님이 육신이 되신 하나님의 말씀이라는 사실을 생각할 때, 그분이 이 땅에서 내딛으신 모든 발걸음과 그가 하신 모든 말씀은 에메랄드처럼 귀하고 태양빛처럼 순수합니다.
예수님의 영광은 이 세상의 영광과 전혀 다릅니다.
우리는 포스팅을 하기위해 사진을 찍고 다른 사람들이 우리에게 관심을 갖게 합니다.
예수님에게서 우리는 어떤 사진도 찾지 못합니다. 그의 고난의 상징인 십자가만을 볼 수 있습니다.
만일 우리가 기적을 행할 수 있다면 많은 돈을 벌기 위해 프랜차이즈 회사를 차릴 것입니다.
예수님은 그분이 세상의 주인이면서도 가난한 삶을사셨습니다.
예수의 영광은 유명해지거나 부자가 되는 것이 아니었습니다.
예수님의 영광은 죄인을 섬기고 구원하기 위해 인간이 되신 것입니다.
사도 요한은 이 겸손하신 하나님께 감동을 받았습니다.
과거에 그는 야망이 너무 커서 예수님의 영광스러운 보좌 옆에 앉기를 원했습니다.
그러나 예수님은 허리에 수건을 두르시고 그의 발을 씻기셨습니다.
요한은 항상 예수님의 가슴에 눕기를 원했습니다.
그는 심지어 예수님이 십자가에서 죽으시는 것을 보았습니다.
그곳에서 예수께서는 그의 원수들을 용서해 달라고 기도하셨습니다.
사도들은 예수님의 영광을 아주 분명하게 보았습니다.
예수님을 우러러볼 때 우리는 대서양과 태평양과 같은 은혜와 진리의 바다를 봅니다.
예수님 안에서 우리는 우리의 죄 때문에 정죄를 받아야 한다는 진리를 발견합니다.
그러나 예수님 안에서 우리는 십자가에서 우리 죄를 담당하여 우리를 구원하신 은혜도 발견합니다.
2017년 저는 하나님의 구속 역사에 대한 엄청난 피로감과 무관심에 짓눌렸습니다.
저는 우리 모임의 어떤 경향들에 동의하지 않았습니다.
하나님의 말씀이 더 이상 내 마음에 깊이 와 닿지 않았습니다.
직장과, 가족과, 친구와, 취미등 모두 옹졸한 자기중심적인 삶에 다시 빠져들었습니다.
저의 마음에는 또 다른 영광, 곧 세상의 영광이 자라고 있었습니다.
이 시간 동안 예수님은 요한계시록 성경 공부를 통해 잃어버린 세상의 드라마와 곧 다시 오실 것을 보여 주셨습니다.
아름다운 알프스를 하이킹하는 동안 예수님은 하나님의 일을 향한 제 마음을 새롭게 하셨습니다.
갑자기 눈물이 터져나왔습니다. 이 세상에는 그 삶에 비전이 필요한 젊은이들이 너무 많습니다.
이 부흥의 시기에 예수님께서는 쾰른 UBF에 있는 그분의 교회를 책임감 있게 돌보도록 저를 부르셨습니다.
주님은 제가 저의 취미와 다른 활동들 가운데 일부분을 포기하도록 도와주었습니다.
하나님의 영광을 섬기는 것은 큰 기쁨입니다.
저는 온 마음을 다해 기도하고, 환경을 준비하고, 하나님의 양 떼를 돌보는 수 많은 예수님의 숨겨진 제자들을 볼 수 있었습니다.
예수님의 사랑을 다시 찾은 청년이 믿음의 여인과 결혼하고 그의 은사들을 가지고 하나님을 섬기는 모습을 볼 수 있었습니다.
예수님은 사람이 되셨고 제 인생의 중요한 단계에서 저를 찾아와주셨습니다.
저는 그분께 속해 있습니다.
그의 영광이 제 삶을 정의합니다. 할렐루야!
예수님은 영원한 창조주 하나님이십니다.
예수님 안에 생명이 있습니다.
예수님을 통해 하나님의 영광이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하셨습니다.
은혜와 진리가 충만하신 아버지의 독생자의 영광이신 예수님의 영광을 보게 하소서. 아멘!
